A model project for working with young people at risk from right-wing extremism

How can we deal with young people at risk from the far right in a meaningful and targeted way in our educational work? Which methods and approaches prove their worth in practice? How do we motivate young people to show more civil courage, for example, when it's all right for them that someone else is being mobbed or beaten up? These are the questions that the project "Clear the stage for respect! project aims to find answers.

The project makes democracy and human dignity tangible for young people who are at risk from right-wing extremism; are actionist in orientation and show a high affinity for right-wing extremist attitudes. An important learning field for democratic manners and decision-making processes are the processes in the group, which are used as starting points for political debates. This is done with the help of practical and creative forms of expression such as theater, film, artistic design and music (e.g. Stomp), which are combined with methods from various areas of political education.

In parallel, the project accompanies the participating educators and offers methodological training.

So far, the project has already worked successfully with young people and teachers in different types of schools, with detainees as well as with young people who are absent from school.

"Bühne frei für Respekt!" is a model project within the framework of the federal program "VIELFALT TUT GUT. Youth for Diversity, Tolerance and Democracy" and is funded by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, the Saxony-Anhalt Youth Office and other funding sources.
